Sarah lives on the Coromandel, painting in her Art Shed nestled in her developing garden. Below, the sea rolls into Mercury Bay, offering continual inspiration.

Sarah’s artistic journey is inspired by her upbringing in rural Gisborne and her current home on the Coromandel Peninsula. Her work is also shaped by her love of travel, including a recent 8-week exploration of Cuba and Mexico, where the vibrant cultures and landscapes left a lasting impression. Years of landscaping, design, and art in Wellington have further influenced her creativity, as she sketched and observed the landscape, particularly the Wellington ‘breeze’ playing on the water. These experiences resonate deeply in her layered, luminous art.
Use of Paint and Materials:
Sarah builds her paintings through careful layering, using acrylic paint to create depth and luminosity. She often applies up to 40 thin layers, using transparent glazes and acrylic wax with an encaustic-like technique. Her choice of tools, including silicon and steel, allow Sarah to spread the media intuitively, enhancing the textures and interplay of colours and light. Whether working on canvas, board, or heavy art paper, Sarah’s method produces paintings with a tactile and visual richness that makes each piece distinct and engaging.
